The future doesn't belong to you!

For those who have not completed games in the Xenoblade Chronicles series, this page contains spoilers regarding the plot. Discretion is advised.

The Bionis' Shoulder (Japanese: 巨神肩, Kyoshin Kata lit. Giant God's Shoulder) is an area in Xenoblade Chronicles: Future Connected. It is the detached left shoulder of the Bionis.

Originally the left shoulder of Bionis and the birthplace of the Giants, it became detached from the rest of it after the death of Zanza and the subsequent destruction and recreation of the world. Now it floats high above Bionis' remains, along with the abandoned city of Alcamoth.

Shulk and Melia end up stranded there after a dark beam fired from Alcamoth damages the Junks, which crashed into a lake.

It is based on the beta area from the original game that cannot be visited in normal gameplay.

Xenoblade Chronicles[]

Discovery of the Monado[]

At some point after the creation of the Bionis, the Monado ended up in the place that would eventually be known as the Companions' Forum. Eventually, the Giant Arglas came across the Monado and picked it up, getting possessed by Zanza in the process.

Future Connected[]

The Appearance of the Fogbeasts[]

After Zanza's death and the Bionis' collapse, its shoulder remained suspended high above the Bionis' remains due to the large amount of Hover Stone within the shoulder. Around this time, Alcamoth relocated next to the shoulder, with many people living inside. Some time after, a rift in time and space opened up in the sky next to Alcamoth due to Bionis beginning to approach the world of Alrest. This rift releases Fogbeasts, including the Fog King, a Guldo from Alrest's Land of Morytha that materialized in Alcamoth from Black Fog. Many of the people in Alcamoth were able to evacuate to the shoulder. Those who evacuated ended up inhabiting some of the Giants ruins, turning it into Gran Dell.

After learning of Alcamoth's location next to the shoulder, Shulk and Melia, as well as Kino and Nene secretly stowing away, fly the Junks to the Bionis' Shoulder from Colony 9, with the hope of reclaiming Alcamoth. As they approach the shoulder, the Fog King fires a black beam at them, forcing the Junks to make a crash landing on the shoulder. After regrouping, the quartet learns of the Fog King from the High Entia living at Companions' Cape, and, deciding to handle the situation, uses the transporter on Soltnar Seal Island to reach the ruined city.

After saving Teelan and escaping from the Fog King, the quartet reunites with Tyrea and then heads to Gran Dell to talk to Radzam about potentially making the Fog King vulnerable. Eventually, Shulk and Radzam successfully modify Shulk's Monado Replica EX into the Monado Replica EX+, a weapon that has the ability to release a wave of highly-concentrated ether, which makes the Fog King susceptible to attacks. After defending the city from rampaging Fogbeasts, Tyrea gives Melia her mask in order for the party to face the Fog King in Melia's Imperial Villa.

Following the Fog King's demise and the rift's closure, Shulk, Kino, and Nene return to Colony 9 in order to gather people to help restore Alcamoth.
