Blades (Japanese: ブレイド) are weapons in Xenoblade Chronicles 3 and Future Redeemed.

Overview[]

Blades are created by the soldiers of Keves and Agnus for their own use. They can take the form of almost any weapon. Each class wields a unique kind of Blade. Blades can be summoned using an Iris.

The type of Blade that Kevesi and Agnian soldiers use stays consistent across their lifespan. Despite being unable to change the type, significant alterations and upgrades can be made to Blades. On rare occasions, a soldier may lack the ability to summon a Blade, as seen with Nikol. Defeating enemies with a Blade is required to fill a Ferronis Flame Clock, thus such soldiers who cannot fight are often considered dead weight by their colonies. Ouroboros and Citizens have the ability to instead use different blades, with Ouroboros having the ability to wield Blades belonging to others.

Blades are color coded based on their user's origin: Kevesi Blades are a light black and their energy is blue; Agnus Blades are white and emit yellow energy; City Blades feature grey and emit orange energy; Moebius Blades are black with red highlights and feature purple energy; Noah's Veiled Sword is predominantly red with Kevesi energy - though occasionally green as seen during Chapter 1; and Matthew's Ouroboros Knuckles are the most unique amongst Aionios Blades, being red and emitting green energy, seemingly due to their connection with the Ouroboros Stone and Pneuma. Guernica Vandham seems to recognize that light is the same in nature as the light from the Ouroboros Stone in Noah's Veiled Sword.

Certain Blades whose origin stem from the old worlds do not fully follow this theme: such as the Elemental Staff, Anima Sword, A's Monado, and the Monado REX+. The Firelight Swords, while resembling the Aegis Swords of Pyra and Mythra, do not have their origins fully explained.

All Kevesi and Agnian Blades feature a Flame Clock half-filled by a blue light for Kevesi Blades and a yellow light for Agnian Blades. Blades used by Moebius feature a Moebius symbol over the Flame Clock. City Blades lack Flame Clocks entirely. When someone from Keves or Agnus becomes Ouroboros, their Blade's Flame Clock is replaced by an Ouroboros ring. This change also applies to almost any Blade used them that belongs to others. Additionally, almost any Blade that lacks a Flame Clock will have an Ouroboros ring added, sometimes replacing part of that Blade's design, when used by Ouroboros, with the only exception being the Inosabers.

Certain weapons that are not truly Blades can be incorporated by the people of Aionios to be used as Blades. This can be clearly seen with Lucky Seven/Sword of the End, which Noah and N incorporated into their Veiled Swords, and Variable Arms which are used by Ouroboros members copying the Yumsmith class. This is also implied to be the case with Heroes from the old worlds. There seems to be limitations to this ability, as Nikol has to carry his Variable Backpack on his back, unable to store and dispel it like a standard Blade, and D's preferred claw weapons were never his Blades.

Blades made of Origin Metal contain people's souls. As revealed in Xenoblade 3 Official Artworks Aionios Moments, both the souls and wills of Pyra and Mythra are present within the metal contained in Matthew's gauntlets, as shown when a transparent manifestation of Trinity Processor core Pneuma appears on it. Similarly, Logos' soul exists within N's Sword of The End, and Fiora's soul within Lucky Seven.
