A Caro

Caro (Japanese: ノックス, Nokkusu) are hostile quadrupedal creatures in Xenoblade Chronicles X. They are similar to Grexes but have large thorns and fangs. They are primarily found in Sylvalum and Cauldros.

Description[]

"Omnivores that consume almost anything, even decaying meat that other animals wouldn't dare touch. The caro's sense of smell is extremely honed, allowing even well-concealed prey to be sniffed out. They are also persistent hunters that tirelessly pursue their quarry."

"Caro are monogamous, maintaining small familial herds, where mature offspring help their parents raise newborns. To this end, any bones left over from successful hunts are carried back to their den as emergency rations for times when food grows scarce."

Characteristics[]

Much like grexes, caro have a wolf-like form. Their backs are covered in helmet-like ornate plating that has two spike-like projections from each side. Their helmeted heads have many sharp teeth sticking out from their upper jaw. Their tails end in lantern-like lights.

Like grexes, caro can usually be seen roaming around, hunting with a pack, digging, eating, or sleeping. Some Marnuck use caro as guard dogs.

Caro may be derived from the Latin word "carō", meaning meat or flesh.

The Japanese name "Nokkusu" may be derived from the Latin word "noxius", meaning harmful.
