Chapter 8 (Japanese: 第8章　NLA防衛戦, Daihasshō: NLA Bōeisen) is a Story Mission in Xenoblade Chronicles X. It can be received from Vandham at the BLADE Barracks in New Los Angeles. This mission corresponds to Chapter 8 of the main plot, when the Ganglion invade New Los Angeles.

During this story mission, two areas, the NLA Primary Defense Line in Primordia and the NLA Last Defense Line in New Los Angeles, are exclusively unveiled. This is one of only three chapters where story exclusive areas are present.

The clock freezes at 4:00 for the duration of this mission. The Network Console in the barracks is temporarily unavailable due to the emergency, and Cheche sets up the Shop Terminal and AM Terminal in the barracks to allow preparations before leaving for the defense line.

Objectives

Note: At the start of the mission, the AM Terminal and Shop Terminal have been temporarily moved into the BLADE Barracks next to the exit so that they can be accessed before leaving.

• "Leave the BLADE barracks."
  • The party will automatically travel to NLA Primary Defense Line in Primordia.
• Achieve all objectives
  • "Defeat the scout puges." (3)
  • "Defeat the strike pugiliths." (2)
• "Defend the east gate of New LA from the Ganglion's attack for three minutes."
  • The enemies can be any three of the following: Assault Qmoeva, Pursuit Qmoeva, Blitz Qmoeva, and Assister Quo. Each will respawn one minute after being defeated.
• Achieve all objectives
  • "Defeat the impact Galdr." (1)
  • "Defeat the impact Galdr." (1)

• Upon completion of these objectives, the party automatically moves to the NLA Last Defense Line in New Los Angeles.

• "Head to New LA's commercial district and eliminate the invading forces."
• Achieve all objectives
  • "Defeat Dagahn."
  • "Defeat Ryyz."

Results

"You successfully repelled the Ganglion's attack and saved New LA. However, the alien mech was stolen."
