Critical Hits are a recurrent mechanic in the Xenoblade Chronicles series.
Xenoblade Chronicles[]
In Xenoblade Chronicles and Future Connected, critical hits increase an attack's damage by 25%. If an enemy is suffering from Topple or Daze, physical attacks will deal 25% more critical damage, for a total of 50% extra damage. Fiora's "Ultimate Strike" skill increases the damage of critical attacks by another 20%. Landing a Critical Hit fills the Party Gauge by 10% of one bar.
Critical Rate is the probability that an attack will score a Critical Hit. The base rate is 5% plus the critical rate of the equipped weapon. Ether attacks will always critical hit on a toppled enemy. Both physical and Ether attacks will always be critical hits on an enemy put to sleep. It may be further raised or lowered by:
- Critical Up gems.
- Certain skills and skill branches, such as Riki's "Heroism".
- Certain Battle Arts, such as Dunban's Heat Haze.
- Tension, Very Low Tension decreases Critical chance by 20%, and Low Tension by 10%. High Tension increases Critical chance by 15%, and Very High by 30%.

Xenoblade Chronicles 2[]

Landing a critical hit will raise the Affinity of the Driver and Blade who landed the critical hit by 5 points, and will also increase the Party Gauge by 3 points, with certain accessories and skills from a Driver's Affinity Chart. Critical hits are identified by the damage dealt by the hit being displayed bigger than standard hits.
Several effects will activate upon landing a critical hit, like arts being recharged, or the Driver being healed.
The critical hit rate of a Driver is determined by their currently active Blade's weapon and Core Chip. Critical hit rate can also be increased by the Critical Up, Massive Melee Mythra, Mythra-Style Pyra, and Blue Sky Pyra Aux Cores, as well as the Critical Up Blade Art. Certain accessories will also increase critical hit rate. Additionally, Pneuma's Battle Skill "The Aegis" will make all of the party's attack critical hits until her gauge is depleted.
