Dematerialization
Dematerialization (English dub: /ˌdiː.məˌtɪər.i.əl.aɪˈzeɪ.ʃən/), or De-mat /ˈdiːˌmæt/ for short, is a phenomenon that occurs in Xenoblade Chronicles X: Definitive Edition.
Overview[]
Dematerialization is a phenomenon that begins to occur across Mira during Chapter 13 (Act 1). Anything that is caught within its radius is completely erased. Additionally, Ghosts manifest wherever dematerialization occurs.
Gameplay[]
De-mat zones appear across Mira during Chapter 13. Getting too close to one will cause the party to take heavy terrain damage, even when piloting Skells. If a party member makes direct contact with a dematerialization void without being in a Skell, they will be instantly Incapacitated. Additionally, Ghost enemies will appear around them.
Skells destroyed in a de-mat event will be replaced free of charge, regardless of its remaining insurance.
Miran Archives[]
"A phenomenon that occurred spontaneously all across Mira, erasing any and all matter caught in its radius, silencing even electromagnetic waves."
Trivia[]
- Dematerialization is very similar to Annihilation Events in Xenoblade Chronicles 3, with both being phenomena that spontaneously occur and erase anything caught within their radius, eroding away at the world. But unlike Annihilation Events that leave behind a cavity in space that can be subsequently filled with new matter, De-mat events actually destroy that piece of a universe, never disappear, and expand to destroy entire universes they appear in.
