Reyn's Mental Fortitude skill requiring 700 SP to be learnt

Skill Points, commonly referred to as SP, are game mechanics in Xenoblade Chronicles. They are similar to EXP and AP. SP are used to upgrade the party members' Skill Trees, and can be earned by battling and discovering Landmarks.

Means of receiving SP[]

Battling[]

The amount earned in each battle depends on the level of the opponent. Unlike AP and EXP, this reward is not entirely dependent on the enemy's colour tag. The reward system is as follows:

  • 7 levels or more higher: 20 SP
  • 4-6 levels higher: 15 SP
  • Within 3 levels: 10 SP
  • 4-6 levels lower: 5 SP
  • 6 levels or more lower: 1 SP

In the original version, each character's SP reward is calculated based on their own level, rather than the level of the party leader. In Definitive Edition, this is changed, instead being based on the average level of the active party.

Finding Landmarks[]

The first time a Landmark is visited, SP is received as well as EXP and AP. Secret Areas will give a higher amount of SP (and EXP and AP) than the average for the Area. For example, all ordinary Landmarks on the Bionis Leg will give 24 SP. However, Observation Platform and Believer's Paradise (both Secret Areas on the Bionis Leg) each give 64 SP.

A list of how much SP (as well as EXP and AP) each Landmark gives can be found here.
