A "Topple × Pandemic" Fusion Combo

Fusion Combos are a battle mechanic in Xenoblade Chronicles 2 and Torna ~ The Golden Country. A Fusion Combo occurs when a Driver Combo is triggered while a Blade Combo is active or vice versa, and results in increased damage to the enemy. It also partly fills the Party Gauge and increases the duration of the combos, making it easier to extend the combos to further stages.

The notification of a Fusion Combo has two different forms. If it was triggered by the party leader's use of an Art or Special, or by the third Special of a Blade Combo, the combo's name is displayed in large text across the center of the screen. If it was triggered by another party member, the combo name will be displayed in small text.

For example, if the enemy is Toppled while a "Pandemic" Blade Combo is in effect, the result is a "Topple × Pandemic" Fusion Combo. If the enemy is then Launched, it becomes a "Launch × Pandemic" Fusion Combo.

If an enemy is finished by a Fusion Combo, the result is a Joint Combo Finish, and the EXP earned for the battle will increase.

Fusion Combo Stages

Blade Combo
Level 1 Level 2 Level 3
Break Stage 2 Stage 3 Stage 4
Topple Stage 3 Stage 4 Stage 5
Launch Stage 4 Stage 5 Stage 6
Smash Stage 5 Stage 6 Stage 7

Fusion Combo Bonuses

The bonus effects of a Fusion Combo increase with the sum of the number of stages of both Blade and Driver combos, as shown in the following table.

Stages Damage Effect time Party gauge EXP
2 stages +50% +10% +10 +40%
3 stages +50% +10% +10 +50%
4 stages +75% +20% +15 +60%
5 stages +75% +20% +15 +70%
6 stages +100% +30% +20 +80%
7 stages +100% +30% +20 +100%

For example, Topple is a stage 2 Driver Combo (Break → Topple) while Pandemic is a stage 2 Blade Combo (Water → Earth), so a "Topple × Pandemic" Fusion Combo will give the bonuses shown above for 4 stages.

The damage up effects can be stacked by using more Blade Combos, but will only remain until the current Driver combo stage remains (e.g. until it runs out or a new stage is applied).

The Damage Increased effect will only be granted if the Blade Combo component is applied on top of the Driver Combo stage (e.g. Break then Fire, not Fire then Break). The damage bonus from the Driver Combo stage is added to the Fusion Combo damage total (e.g. Break -> Topple -> Fire is a 3 stage combo, and the damage bonus will be: "+ 50% (fusion) + 25% (topple) = 75%").

If the Driver Combo is applied after the Blade Combo, the Effect Time Increase is applied.
