Glimmer Rhodes (Japanese: カギロイ・ローディス, Kagiroi Rōdisu) is a playable character in Xenoblade Chronicles 3: Future Redeemed. She was designed by Masatsugu Saito, the lead character designer of the game.
Overview[]
Glimmer is the founder of House Rhodes. She is an Agnian soldier with Aegis traits who fights with a staff. She has a stubborn personality, and a harsh tone. She develops a selfish personality after being unable to accept the truth of the world.[2] Her class is Kitharode, a Healer class which uses the Wildfire Kithara as its weapon, which appears to be a combination of a staff, a candelabra, and a stringed instrument.
After being implied throughout Future Redeemed, it is hinted at the end of The Ouroboros Power that she was originally raised by Rex. She seems to eventually move past her stubbornness and harshness, as her statue's description in Memorial Hall notes that she was "exceedingly gentle and kind at heart." Also according to her statue's description, she contributed to the development of medical science in the City.
Appearance[]
Glimmer is biologically of half-Leftherian and half-Blade origin. Glimmer bears numerous similarities to Pyra in appearance; in addition to sharing Pyra's emerald Aegis Core Crystal on her chest (thought whole), Glimmer also has light red hair with a similar fringe to Pyra and a ponytail that is tied in a similar fashion to Pneuma by a white ornament with red lines. Her head also has a white and red headband. Her eyes are orange. Her skin is white, and she possesses a lean physique with a noticeable bust.
Her clothing consists of a short skirted yukata on her torso and shoes that resemble tabi socks with sandals. Her legs are mostly bare. The yukata is white outside and red inside. Her midsection has a crimson "belt skirt" with a white flame pattern on the side. On top of the "belt skirt" is a red band with a silver buckle. On her hips is a white band with a bronze buckle which leans to the left and has a red ribbon. On top of that ribbon is an Asian style tassel. She has a ribbon tied around her arms and secured at her neck. Her hands have black fingerless gloves with silver bands at her wrists. Her shoes are white with black platform soles and red laces. The shoes are affixed to her feet by red metallic bands at her ankles. Bronze shapes are present on the front and side of the shoes. She seems to wear two sets of socks, a black outer sock and white inner sock. On her left thigh is a white pouch with bronze buckles.
Her Blade is a white staff with a fan like head what has red and gold details. The staff ends at a spiky point. It can produce flames and turn into a cello by generating orange strings. A flame clock can be seen on the center of the fan, which turns into the Ouroboros symbol after she becomes Ouroboros.
Story[]
Xenoblade Chronicles 3: Future Redeemed[]
Previous Life[]
Prior to the merging of the two worlds and the creation of Aionios, the original Glimmer lived in Alrest, likely being raised by Rex. As part of the Origin system, Glimmer was repeatedly reborn in Aionios as a soldier of Agnus.
Soldier of Agnus[]
Eventually, an incarnation of Glimmer was assigned to Colony Gamma. When Colony Gamma fought against Colony 5 in Vermilion Woods, her colony almost defeated Colony 5 until everyone but her was killed by the Keves colony's Ferronis. Glimmer and Nikol, now the sole survivors of their respective colonies, began trying to kill each other. However, their fight was interrupted by Matthew, who used his gauntlets' Ouroboros power to stop the fight, resulting in Glimmer and Nikol becoming Ouroboros. The two soldiers tried to kill Matthew and A, but are easily defeated. When Consuls Q and R appear to fight Matthew and A, R has Glimmer surprise attack Matthew from behind, but proves to be no use, as A kills both Consuls and then destroys the two Ferronis Flame Clocks, freeing Glimmer and Nikol from the Flame Clock system.
Freed from the Flame Clock[]
Glimmer becomes furious about being released from the Flame Clock, and runs off to try making contact with an Agnian colony. Eventually, she is attacked by some Skarn Volffs and ends up learning that she received new powers. She is then discovered by Panacea, who subdues Glimmer and is about to finish her when she notices that Glimmer's Iris lacks a Flame Clock. Shulk then arrives to assess the situation and has Glimmer come with his group to their nearby camp. Glimmer answers some questions about her current situation, before going to the tent prepared for her.
Later, Glimmer finds that she is in the communication range of Colony Eta. Desperate to contact the Agnian colony, she knocks out the nearby sentries monitoring her, before running to the Diablada Cliffs. There, she encounters Consul W with the Colony Eta Ferronis, and asks the Consul for help. However, due to being Ouroboros, W has no need for her and begins trying to kill her, only for her to be saved by Shulk, who tells her that this is the true nature of the Consuls. Matthew, A, and Nikol arrive on the scene as well, and the four battle the Ferronis while she sits on the sidelines.
After a while, W summons a Kevesi Ferronis, and fuses it and the Agnian Ferronis with himself. He then fires a large beam at Glimmer and Nikol, only for Rex to arrive and block the beam. After W is defeated, everyone rests up for the night at the camp, with Glimmer and Nikol opening up a little to each other. The next day, the group heads to Colony 9, the base of operations for the Liberators. Glimmer also begins to grow closer to the rest of the group.
The Ouroboros Power[]
After the party's encounter with Na'el and Alpha at Raguel Lake, Rex and Shulk explain to Glimmer, Nikol, and Matthew about the history of their original worlds and how Aionios came into being. Afterwards, Glimmer and Nikol decide that they want to fight alongside everyone else in order to defeat Alpha. However, Rex and Shulk adamantly refuse, deeming the two of them unworthy of challenging Alpha, telling them they must stay in the Colony. The party then asks Riku about boosting their Ouroboros power. Riku informs them that they need some kind of "Trigger" to power up. In order to activate this trigger, Rex and Shulk volunteer to fight Glimmer and Nikol at the Gotrock Oracle Ruins. Glimmer and Nikol struggle a bit against the two, but are able to unlock more Ouroboros power to defeat Rex and Shulk, powering up the Ouroboros Stone in the process. Rex and Shulk then agree to let them tag along to Origin. With both matters dealt with, the party turns in for the night.
Later that night, Glimmer has a small heart-to-heart with Rex, who Glimmer does not know is actually her father. Glimmer thanks him for saving her earlier, while Rex apologizes for flipping out at her. Glimmer then opens up about how she was angry at first, but now is glad to be with the group and glad to be able to choose for herself. Glimmer asks Rex about his eye scar. He tells her that he got it during the fight with Alpha, saying he got sloppy and had to pay for it. However, Rex says that he kind of likes the scar despite its downsides, explaining how someone he really looked up to "had an eye thing too".
Glimmer then asks Rex why he risks life and limb fighting to protect people he does not even know. Rex tells her that if through his fighting, someone in the world gets to smile, that is the type of world he wants to help create. He explains how as long as someone's alive, they are always connected to others, saying that it used to be called affinity, or bonds. He then says that their meeting was the work of chance, which tied the bond between the two of them, and now, they have to protect that bond.
Confrontation with Alpha[]
The next morning, the party leaves for the Black Mountains, where Prison Island is located, in order to get to Origin. Soon after, they finally arrive at the Prison Terrace. They are greeted by N, who reveals that the one keeping Na'el in this world is Matthew, which is why N's been trying to kill him. The party confronts him, and N's clash with Matthew reveals to them a memory from Origin, of N's attack on the City and Alpha's involvement with it. All of a sudden, Alpha shows up and sends a ray of lighting at N, shocking him. Alpha's power emanates a fog which consumes the party.
The party arrives inside a memory from Origin. shortly before the time of Klaus' experiment. The party looks around at the scenery of a house with a garden, with a view of a large city with tall buildings, with one tower reaching into the sky. Rex and Shulk confirm that this is a memory of Klaus' world, when the two worlds were one. The party then follows the sound of a piano, and find Na'el, who explains that the world could be like this if they went through with Alpha's plan. A then shows Na'el the Land of Morytha, the aftermath of Klaus' experiment and what Alpha's proposed new world would ultimately become if his plan succeeded. Matthew persuades her that she would be no different from Moebius if she continued to view the Kevesi and Agnians as "things" unworthy of life, and that they could live like the people of the City if they were only allowed to choose it. Na'el agrees to join the party and stop Alpha, but not before Alpha regains control of her and disappears.
The party is then transported back to the Ark, where Alpha insists that the future has no need for the things of the past and that conscience is useless to the Trinity Processor. The party refuses to accept his goals, with Shulk and Rex recalling that Klaus trusted them with the future, and engage in combat with Alpha. After a while, Alpha tries to pull Matthew's soul in, but he resists and stays inside his body before N intervenes in the battle. Matthew expresses that for now, he is glad to have N at his side. Alpha unleashes his true form, that of a large humanoid figure with an empty, mask-like face. In a final effort to defeat Alpha, N grants Matthew the powers of his Sword of The End and instructs him to combine it with his Ouroboros Knuckles, which begin to emit green energy due to them containing what appears to be Pneuma's core. This grants the party the true power of Ouroboros, resulting in Alpha's demise.
The Gift of Life[]
Shulk and Rex begin to fade, and they reveal that without Alpha, Origin requires a new avatar to keep Aionios stable, which will be themselves and A. Glimmer and Nikol expresses disagreement, but Rex assures them that they will see them all again when the worlds are restored. As a final gift, Rex and Shulk grant Glimmer and Nikol their life force so they can live out the rest of their lives, after which Rex, Shulk, and A step forward into a large rift, telling them that the three of them will be waiting for them at the far edge of time.
Sometime after the reconstruction of the City, Glimmer finds Nikol and Riku still working on the Ouroboros Stone. She affirms that once the Ouroboros Stone is upgraded, they will be able to use the power of Ouroboros whenever they want to. The three of them, along with Na'el, Panacea, and Linka, send Matthew off as he sets out on a journey by himself, leaving the City in the hands of his friends.
Xenoblade Chronicles 3[]
Legacy as the City's Liberatrix[]
Glimmer greatly contributed to the City's development of medical science throughout her life. Glimmer eventually became the Founder of House Rhodes and had a family. Glimmer would go on to live until the age of 80 years old.
When the City was rebuilt, a statue of Glimmer was placed in the Memorial Hall alongside the statues of Matthew, Nikol, Shulk, Rex, and Na'el as the City's Liberatrix.
Gameplay[]
In battle, Glimmer's class is Kitharode, a Healer with an aptitude for supporting the party with various buffs and rapid healing. Her Blade is known as the Wildfire Kithara.
In a Chain Attack, Glimmer starts with 20 TP by default, but she can gain 5 more through a "TP Plus" skill in her Affinity Growth tree. Glimmer's Chain Art is Red-Hot Paean, which has a default completion bonus of "Heals all allies by 30% and grants them Regenerate".
Uniquely among all party members in Future Redeemed, Glimmer joins the party at a fixed level of 16, as opposed to other party members matching the party leader's level when they first become controllable. This is likely because she is playable in set battles in Chapter 2 before she joins the party in earnest.

Trivia[]
- Between having an emerald Aegis core crystal and having similar hair, Glimmer is implied to be either Mythra or Pyra's daughter, more likely Pyra's due to the color of her hair and eyes and her powers relating to flame. It's very likely she is the newborn Pyra is seen holding in the group photo Nia keeps, as the baby pictured also has pale red hair.
- In Japanese, Glimmer shares her voice actress with both Pyra and Mythra, as well as their complete form Pneuma. In English, she is voiced by a different actress from them, but is voiced in a manner very similar to Mythra.
