An Ictus

Ictuses (Japanese: マンダ, Manda) are insect-like creatures in Xenoblade Chronicles X. They look like big mantises with huge blade-like arms. They can be found in Primordia, Oblivia, Sylvalum, and Cauldros

Description

"Fearless and deadly, ictuses use their powerful back legs to spring on unwary opponents, striking them with forelegs coated in a paralyzing neurotoxin. They will then carry the prey back to an underground lair and store it until hunger strikes."

"During mating season, ictuses dig a new shaft in their underground homes, which males stock with rotting meat while the female ovulates. As the larvae will feed on this for nearly a month before leaving the nest, a male's worthiness as a mate is based solely on the amount of food he contributes."

Color Variants

Ictuses fall into three color variants:

• Peach ictuses are somewhat flesh-colored with some purple details. They can drop Lone White Ictus Stingers.
• Green ictuses are green and black with some purple details. They can drop Lone Purple Ictus Stingers.
• Purple ictuses are purple with some red details. Their exoskeletons are covered in ornate tattoo-like designs. They can drop Lone Red Ictus Stingers.

Etymology

"Ictus" means a pulse, a sudden attack, a blow, a stroke, or a sting, such as the beat of an artery, the sting of an insect, the stroke of a wing, etc.
