Mechon M64X are normal Mechon enemies in Xenoblade Chronicles. They are enhanced "elite" versions of the standard Mechon M64. Mechon M64X appear at level 20 – 23 throughout the Ether Mine's Central Pit - Level 1, which becomes inaccessible after using the Freight Elevator to leave the mine. They can drop Generic Shafts, which are required for Materials for a Mixer.
There is a Story Exclusive variant that appears at level 22 at Freight Road in Colony 6, during the battle that takes place immediately after escaping the Ether Mine. This variant is a Kindred Enemy, does not respawn, and does not drop Treasure Chests.
The Mechon M64X are similar in appearance to the Mechon M64. The primary difference is that they are taller and have a flower-like appendage that allows them to devour their victims.
Beyond the standard Mechon weaknesses and strengths, Mechon M64X possess a flower-appendage that allows them to eat Homs. This has only been shown in cutscenes and it appears to not serve a purpose in battle. They have the same Arts as regular Mechon M64, and a number of Arts which Mechon M64 do not have.
These Mechon are the ones initially seen in both the opening cinematic and the raid on Colony 9. They are not a challenge in battle until they are met in the Ether Mine, then outside Colony 6 during the battle event involving the story exclusive variant.
