Monado Shield is one of Shulk's Monado arts in Xenoblade Chronicles and Future Connected. The colour of the blade turns yellow when the art is activated. It then generates a force field around each party member, which blocks one Talent Art attack from an enemy, provided the enemy's talent art is not a higher level than Monado Shield. The level of an enemy's talent art is indicated by a Roman numeral at the end of the art's name. Shulk learns this art at the start of the battle with the Arachno Queen.

In the Super Smash Bros. series[]
Monado Shield, though slightly altered, appears in Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo 3DS / Wii U and Super Smash Bros. Ultimate. When Shulk uses his neutral special move, Monado Arts, he can activate an art that simultaneously increases and decreases certain attributes for a brief period of time. In the case of Monado Shield, Shulk receives far less damage and knockback from attacks, but his agility is severely reduced, both on ground and in midair. When Shield is in use, Shulk glows yellow, harkening back to the color of the original Monado Shield. The function is overall more similar to Monado Armour than the original Shield, in that it reduces damage taken from attacks as opposed to neutralizing specific attacks.
Trivia[]
- The symbol that appears on the Monado when Monado Shield is activated is the kanji "盾", which means "shield". Shield thus is one of the only few arts that has a kanji that literally translates to its skill.
- Although the cutscene that introduces Monado Shield is shown only to affect Reyn, in battle it will defend all three members of the party.
- Monado Shield and Monado Enchant are the only Monado arts from Xenoblade Chronicles to not appear in Xenoblade Chronicles 3: Future Redeemed.
