Renouncing Self

Renouncing Self is a Heart-to-Heart in Xenoblade Chronicles X. It is located at the Cathedral's bell tower in the Residential District of New Los Angeles between Bozé and Cross during the morning.

This Heart-to-Heart is unusual in that one of the options will advance the game's day/night clock by 9 hours depending on the path taken, though the dialogue itself implies 30 hours (6 hours + 1 day).

    "Hmm. I'll take that question to mean "how did you end up becoming so strangely pious?" "
    "My religious journey began many decades ago, on my first mission as a platoon leader in Asia."
    "Led astray by bad intel, my platoon was isolated in the jungle and eventually overrun."
    "A girl from a nearby village found me at the brink of death and saved my life."
    "And there, I learned the most wonderful lesson..."

    "It began with learning how to make a basic rice porridge."
    "It's a simple but powerful food, and one with the power to change lives. It certainly returned me to life."
    "But what happened after that, you ask?"

    "On the 22nd day after my platoon was ambushed, they came for me."
    "Just as I finished saying my farewells and the helicopter lifted into the air..."
    "It was hit by a rocket."

    "...And so, it wasn't until the 49th day that I was finally reunited with the army."
    "And after that..."

    "And that's how I came to be here."
    "Admittedly, I omitted several decades there. But I believe I was able to convey the gist of it."
    "If you'd like to know more, come speak with me again. Next time I'll fill in a few of the blanks."
    "I shall await you, O seeker of knowledge."

    "And if I were to attempt to meditate outside of the city, I'd awaken from it in the belly of some indigen."
    "So to put it simply, this is the best place I've found to meditate on this planet."
    "But that is enough for today. I'm heading back to the barracks to get myself some breakfast."
    "And there is no finer way to break one's fast than with a meal of boiled tofu and salsa!"
