Stannif (Japanese: スタニフ, Sutanifu) is a character in Xenoblade Chronicles 2: Torna ~ The Golden Country. He is a cloaked researcher for the Indoline Praetorium and has a personal connection to Praetor Rhadallis.
Story[]
Stannif is first seen with Amalthus as they walk through a long corridor. Stannif tells Amalthus that Magister Baltrich has a grudge against him and hopes to exact revenge on Amalthus. He warns Amalthus that he can't hide behind Praetor Rhadallis forever.
He then leads Amalthus into a dark room with various scraps laying around. Stannif reveals that the scraps are Judician relics salvaged from the Cloud Sea nearby the Land of Morytha. Through studying Judician technology, he and the Praetor were able to uncover many hidden secrets about Blades. They confirmed the Indoline belief that Blades had evolved from humans, as their genetic material bared many similarities. More importantly, Stannif discovered that Core Crystals contain information on all living creatures and that some Blades will one day develop into Titans. He proposes to use this new information to help Amalthus reach his own unspecified goals.
Stannif then travels to Gormott for a routine Core Crystal collection, leading a group of Indoline warrior monks. They eventually encounter Gort, who had fled Torigoth after having his prosthetic arm cut off by Jin. He then kidnaps Gort and brings him back to Amalthus, unconscious. Stannif proposes to Amalthus to begin experimenting with the Blade Eater process with Gort as the first test subject. He reassures Amalthus by stating that Gort's power will drastically increase and that he will eventually die even if he goes rogue. He also notes Gort's connection to Jin, giving them more purpose to use him as a test subject.
Using Stannif's technology, Indol perfects the Blade Eater technology. They use it to turn Gort into a large, chimera-like creature, and Stannif sends him after Lora and Jin. Though Gort is eventually defeated by Lora, the Blade Eater process was used to create many more chimeras for Indol's military force. Stannif is seen one last time walking with High Prince Zettar in Indol after the Kingdom of Torna's demise.
