Swordmarch (Japanese: 大剣, Taiken, lit: The Great Sword) is a Region of Aionios in Xenoblade Chronicles 3.
Story[]
The Weapon of a Titan[]
In the distant past, Swordmarch was the sword of a being known as Mechonis, and was used to battle its eternal adversary, the Bionis. After the battle, the blade of the sword, now stuck in the Bionis, became known as Sword Valley, while its hilt became the site of Galahad Fortress, the stronghold of murderous machines known as the Mechon. At one point, there was even a large-scale battle on the sword between the Mechon and the beings born of the Bionis. Eventually, the Bionis and Mechonis reawakened and battled again, but the Bionis' weapon overpowered and slicing through the Mechonis' sword, resulting in Mechonis' death and its broken sword plunging into the endless ocean below.
The City of Ouroboros[]
When Z used Origin to create Aionios, the Mechonis' sword became stuck into one of the Leftherian Titans in the Cadensia Region and eventually became known to the peoples of Aionios as the Great Sword, Swordmarch.
Swordmarch became hotly-contested territory for Keves and Agnus, with large-scale battles happening over it for strategic reasons, leaving many husks on the sword.
Following the destruction of the Cent-Omnia Region, the survivors of the original City and the Liberators that evacuated from Colony 9 rebuilt the City, which had been destroyed by N, on Swordmarch's hilt. When Guernica Vandham encounters Noah, Mio, Eunie, Taion, Sena, and Lanz in Alfeto Valley, he tells them that the "real enemy" is not from Keves or Agnus, and advises them to travel to the City in Swordmarch.
After escaping from Keves Castle, the party reaches the base of the sword and is led inside Swordmarch by Monica and the Lost Numbers. The party then enters the City, where they learn about how humans are supposed to live as well as more about Moebius. After the party is imprisoned in Agnus Castle by N, Mio, having swapped bodies with M, warns Monica and Ghondor that the Castle plans to fire its Annihilator at the City, due to Shania informing the Consuls of its whereabouts. The City is then relocated somewhere beneath the world, while Swordmarch is hit by the Annihilator, forming a cavity in the sword.
